When Gary was asked about this by his sister who was still working for him, he said that what he was doing was legal, but not to mention it to any one.

In 1990-1992 Gary moved the company from Spokane to Post Falls ID and back to Spokane Washington.

His wife at the time was asked if Gary really did go to some kind of mail order school, her reply was an emphatic "No!" The certificate was in trade for the money a lady owed on her vitamins that she received from Gary’s outpatient clinic.

The lady worked for San Bernadine College and she gave a blank certificate to Gary, which he and his wife forged the signatures to make it look professional.

It was During this time that the AMA contacted the office in Spokane. When the meeting was over Gary informed the office staff that the initials on all literature and product was to be changed from MD to ND. Then the IRS came after him for falsifying records and then the Naturopathic Association caught wind of his claims and came knocking at the office doors to review Gary’s credentials. The office was fully aware what was going on as because they were all interviewed as well and the staff was told that the Association was in the process of shutting Gary down for using the ND falsely.

As part of Gary’s family were part of his staff, the pressure was really on and Gary’s temper got completely out of control and he went into a rage. he picked up an axe and chopped through a door that his wife had bolted to protect her and the children.

Once inside he headed after his family, he threw his oldest daughter down a long flight of stairs and then turned towards his wife with the ax raised, he was going to deliver a crushing blow to her head just as his brother-in-law step in between the two and stopped the action long enough for the police to enter and arrest Gary for battery with a deadly weapon.

Shortly after his release from jail he divorced his second wife and left their two children behind in Spokane, he also took his wife’s formulas and moved the company to Utah to be with the woman who later became his third wife and then changed the company name to Young Living Essential Oils.

Once in Utah it was easy to continue with the farce that he was a ND with his new wife helping support the story. She had money and all kinds of contacts from Sunrider to build YL even faster.

For those of you who are not aware a Naturopathic Doctor degree from a reputable university/college is a 4-year full time program and the pre-requisite to be accepted is 90 semesters which include English, Humanities, Algebra, Pre-calculus, chemistry and so forth.

Anyone who has listened to Gary speak can plainly pick up the lack of higher education. With him building his business, moving all the time and his personal life being so busy, there clearly has not been any time for any college level courses.

Gary suffers from a severe case of "I-itis" For example when he speaks of spending time in the Hebrew University studying, it is amazing how he was able to translate the ancient books since Gary’s limit to any language is English. He gives no credit to anyone else.

So where and when did Gary get his aromatherapy education? Just like a lot of people in the Aromatherapy Community, Gary attended weekend workshops. He did not take any formal training as he has led the public to believe. Gary has a great habit of name-dropping, he told me once that when you name drop it makes you appear to be knowledgeable and people don’t question what you say.

In 1992, someone in his family, came across Gary’s copy of the IFA magazine, which when opened, revealed a piece of carbon paper and a sheet of paper that had an unfamiliar name written many times over the sheet of paper. On that page in the magazine was a message from the President of IFA and a signature at the bottom of the page.

When looking closely one could see where someone had traced over the name of the president and it was the same name as the one on the sheet of paper and on the carbon paper as well you could plainly see that the name was being traced over and over.

When Gary was asked why someone would trace a name out of an International magazine he became infuriated and stated that it was to be forgotten that it was ever seen. Later on in his seminars he claimed he had a certificate proving he was the only person in North America who was a member of the IFA.
