| In
our last issue, AFS ran an opinion poll on the Rain Drop Technique, or
Rain Drop Therapy as it is known by most people.
This, unfortunately quickly became a popularity contest between the two opposing factions and the numbers were pretty much rendered useless. However, it soon became apparent that the real usefulness of this poll was not in the numbers but in the comments being left behind. At the closing of the poll, there were one hundred and one comments made. Of those comments, 31% were against RDT and of those, 19% had actually had negative experiences, in the form of pain, rashes, possible miscarriages and more. Aromatherapy is supposed to be one of the most gentle alternative therapies that people can use to promote their own mental, physical and spiritual well being. If people are being hurt in that process, then a technique or a therapy cannot be classified as gentle or harmless. How can anyone support RDT if it is causing people to be harmed? If people are stepping forward and saying "it burned me", "my midwife says it probably caused my miscarriage", "I now have eczema because of it, my sister was hurt by it" and more. There have been no clinical trials to see if this ‘treatment" is safe. Most people using it show gross ignorance of what Essential Oils are and what they can do, and Young Living is promoting this form of treatment and education everyday in books, videos, seminars and through their sales people. It is this type of blatant abuse of Essential Oils, and the harm that RDT is causing to people that will bring in the FDA and cause Essential Oils to be regulated to the point of strangulation. |
While
it is true that 69% of the comments were in favor of RDT, with glowing
reports about how RDT has cured their scoliosis, or has helped to make
someone hear again, there has been no evidence to support these claims.
There have been no published reports by Young Living or anyone else to support the claims made about the straightening of the spine, or cancer being reversed, or any of the other spectacular claims that are being made by RDT’s fervent supporters. Other comments were made about the use of RDT on children and showed a dreadful lack of knowledge on just what E.O.’s are capable of and how they should be used or NOT used on children; "I’ve been using RDT on my children since they were two years old." WHAT IS RDT? RDT is the use of pure essential oils poured on to the bare skin. Of the well known side effects of using pure oils, one is a burning sensation which can lead to visible rashes and welts, while another one is sensitization, or becoming allergic to the oils used. Two of the oils listed as used in RDT were Birch and Origanum. These are two very strong oils and should be used with extreme care. In fact, Birch should never be used during pregnancy or when breastfeeding or by those with sensitive skin. Regarding Origanum, according to Kurt Schnaubelts "Advanced Aromatherapy", it is dermal caustic and should not be used on the skin and that long term use of the oil or "any oil with high phenol content, can lead to undesirable changes in the liver metabolism". |
