Help the Heroes
Adopt a Fire Station

INDEX
Everyone all knows that on September 11th, 2001, Fire Fighters gave their lives to help other people live. One Fire Station lost every man on duty that morning.

One month later, after swallowing toxic dust, with PCB's, Asbestos, Dioxins, the Fire Fighters are afflicted with what has become known as the 'WTC Cough'. A nasty hacking cough as the body tries to fight off the poisons that have entered into the body.

Several months later, these men are still not getting the help they need.

If these men do not get the dust and poisons out of their systems, they run the serious risk of years of debilitating health, without the money for proper health care.

They are in dire need of diffusers, respiratory blends for the lungs, small spray bottles (2 and 4 ounce bottles), that are small and can be slipped into a pocket. Rich creamy blends that can be massaged into cracked hands and feet. Blends that can be rubbed into the chest, and of course money.

With that in mind, Sylla Sheppard-Hangar of the Atlantic Institute has instigated the  "Adopt a Fire Station" program. She is asking that people send in a donation of  $200.00 which should cover most supplies, depending on how many are in the station.

This will provide one or two vaporizers, a professional diffuser, enough essential oil blend to last a year, and a separate kit for each man to use at home as well (with blend, personal air purifier, flannels, dry skin cream, etc).

Sylla writes ""I found out how it really is there in the stations- they live there yet they must buy and prepare their own food, they supply and maintain their own uniforms, they furnish, repair, and maintain the station, all on their own money."

"I learned who these men really are- many wanted to do this since childhood and could not do anything else, and they put up with the low pay, supplementing with other jobs to support their families.

I learned how the FDNY is not taking care of these men, financially, but more importantly they are not taking care of their respiratory health. This is where we come in."

Sylla went on to say that she desperatly needs help with this in the way of sponsors wishing to adopt a station.

" I want to have the first 50 stations set up by end of next trip (February 10-17) - there are 300 stations in NYC total, but we will start with the ones from lower Manhattan first and any others that are in serious need."

Anyone who adopts a station will get a T-Shirt, hat, badges etc from that particular station  and because many stations have computers, email is possible and you will be able to stay in touch with those wonderful men and women. Plus if you ever visit, you will be treated like royalty!!

Anyone interested in adopting, please send an email to sylla@atlanticinstitute.com with Adopt A Station in the subject.

Sylla also said "Please, if you have any contacts or sources for publicity, or ideas, let me know and feel free to pass this plea on to others."

If you can't send $200, send what you can, or better yet, form a group or a club and help these hero's. After everything they have done and given since September 11th, is the least they deserve!
